Wayne Monger

A short list of individuals who personify an activist role in Northern California railroad volunteer activities would have to include Wayne Monger. An East Bay native, Wayne grew up in Dublin and started taking pictures with an Instamatic of the SP San Ramon Branch while attending Dublin High School from 1971-1974. While at UC Berkeley studying geology, he stayed attuned to the rails by working the salt harvest at Oliver Bros. His professional career was primarily in geology-related enterprises, and his volunteer work connected with the Feather River River Rail Society and the Western Pacific Railroad, the Western Railway Museum and the Napa Valley Model Railroad Historical Society among many other activities have made a significant impact to historians and railfans alike. His publications include “Union Pacific – A Decade of Transition”, Pentrex Publishing, 1996 and “Oregon & Northwestern Railroad” along with Jeff Moore, Arcadia Publishing, 2013.
